Watching the Whispering Woods Board Meeting: My Takeaways as a Homeowner

Hi neighbors,
I wanted to take a moment to share my thoughts after attending the April 30th HOA Board Meeting via Zoom. First off, I truly appreciate the effort of those who showed up in person and everyone who serves on a committee or board it’s not an easy job, and I recognize that.
However, as someone who was watching online, I have to be honest the Zoom quality was frustratingly poor. At times, it was impossible to hear what was being said, and important discussions were lost in the glitches. This isn’t just a tech issue—it’s a transparency issue. Homeowners who can’t attend in person still deserve clear access to what’s being discussed and decided on our behalf. I sincerely hope that the board prioritizes a more reliable internet setup before the next meeting, so all of us can stay informed and engaged, whether we’re in the room or not.

Important Highlights from the Meeting
The HOA Is Interviewing 3 New Attorneys
The board is in the process of replacing Mark Bogan, our current attorney, and has narrowed the search down to three potential law firms who will present at the next meeting.
Why this matters to us as residents:
Our attorney is the one advising the HOA on how to handle legal disputes, contracts, enforcement of rules, and even homeowner concerns. Choosing the right firm impacts how our dues are spent, how resident rights are protected, and whether issues are resolved fairly and professionally. We should all be asking:
- Will the new firm be responsive to homeowner concerns?
- Do they have HOA experience and a solid track record?
- Will they help the board operate with more transparency and efficiency?
This is a great time for residents to get involved and ask questions about how the final decision will be made—and how we can make sure the new legal representation is truly working in our best interest.
Speeding Solutions
A survey will be sent out to gather resident input on installing speed cushions or other measures to slow down traffic. Police patrols will also increase between 4–8 PM starting in June, which is great news for families who walk during that time.
Entrance Maintenance & Beautification
- The board approved a contract to paint the interior walls and monuments at both entrances.
- Landscaping improvements are on hold until irrigation issues are resolved. They’re exploring options like using City water or reactivating canal access due to the ongoing drought.
Committee Activity & Updates
For the first time in a while, we heard reports from Finance, Social, Welcome, Rules, and Lakeshore Committees—a positive sign that the community is getting more engaged. Let’s keep that momentum going!
Onsite Property Management Coming
Starting September 1, 2025, the HOA will bring in a part-time (20 hours/week) property manager located at the West Gate. While the firm hasn’t been selected yet, this is something to watch closely especially to ensure we’re getting value for what we pay.
Let’s Speak Up, Neighbors
We all want what’s best for Whispering Woods. Reliable Zoom access, transparent decision-making, and responsible use of our HOA fees aren’t too much to ask. If you agree, let the board know. Share your feedback. Ask your questions. It’s our neighborhood—and we all have a voice in how it’s run.
Thanks for reading, and let’s keep looking out for each other.
